Sometimes
I think ahead
Or dwell
In the past
Only in the now
Can I hear
The quiet hum
The nameless song
The beloved echo
Within

Sometimes
I think ahead
Or dwell
In the past
Only in the now
Can I hear
The quiet hum
The nameless song
The beloved echo
Within

You’re self contained
Nothing else is missing
Any loss or pain
Don’t take to dismissing
The are no gains
Only slow recognitions
Gene G. McLaughlin 2013
There is nothing wrong
With giving up
The best of song Is about surrender
That for what you long
Has ever torn you asunder
Gene G. McLaughlin 2013
Hunger knows your name
I can see it in your glances
Starbuck watches on
As Ahab and the white whale
Dances
I take
No stances

I had a hole I stood next to
I threw all I could find in it
I threw all the songs I could find in it
I threw all the words I could find in it
I threw all the images I could find in it
It was still empty still longing
Still a whisper I couldn’t hear
I threw all the whiskey I could find in it
I threw all the cocaine I could find in it
I threw all the food I could find in it
It was still thirsty still hungry
Just a whisper far away
I threw all the lust I could find in it
I threw all the fear I could find in it
I threw all the anxiety I could find in it
It found no peace still never resting
The whisper left me alone
I ran out of things to throw in it
I stood alone and broken
Next to the hole
Then the whisper said to me directly
It is standing right with you
The suffering and the desire
Grab it take it with you
Put it in the hole
In the hole you’ll know its name
I walked slowly forward
My nerves steeled
Knowing the whisper spoke truth
I wrapped my arms around it
I leapt with it into the whole
I saw it from within it
Then I knew I should embrace it
Then I got to giving up all of it
I knew the name of my desire
I knew the hole was me

A damsel in distress
A knight striving his best
A nautical tale
A huge white whale
Imagined realities
Fight life’s banalities

Came down to ground
Now we’re standing up straight
Walked on our knuckles
Now we stride and strut with a gate
Took slowly to taking
Decided to take up writing
Gave up on tails and fur
But not on all the fighting
Some say that some
Should stand straighter than others
But I ain’t see a one
That’s less monkey than another
Some say that some
Go by a different set of rules
But once we started standing up
We were nobodies fools
All I really know
Is that if you are my friend
Than you ain’t gonna to tell us
We don’t have the right stand again
Gene G. McLaughlin 2013
If I knew
What I learned
Than I’d tell it
But you see
Having lived it
I don’t know it
If I don’t seem
Lost
I just don’t
Show it
Gene G. McLaughlin 2013
You can carry it
That’s alright
Set it down
If you lose the fight
Use finesseInstead of might
But
Make no decision
Due to fright

She was awaken and wired
Silent hidden charged
Believing I conspired
In the room she barged
Me red handed!
Last of pizza I pawed
